GREENWICH, Conn. - Xuan Van Tu, of Torrington, Conn., died March 18 in Greenwich. He was 72.
A memorial service will be held for the father of Greenwich resident Ai Linh Tu from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fred D. Knapp and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.
Tu was born in Lai Thieu, Vietnam, on Feb. 2, 1940, to Vien Van Tu and Tai Thi Le. He met his wife, Thi Thi, at a hospital where they worked. They married on July 3, 1968, and immigrated to Torrington in 1980.
Though trained as a physician in Vietnam, Tu was an artist at heart. He drew, played the guitar and loved to sing and dance. He was a great storyteller, thrilling his children with elaborate tales of ghosts and goblins. In his later years, he enjoyed tending his garden and playing with his grandchildren.
Tu is survived by his wife, Thi Thi Tu; his children, Ai Linh Tu, Thuy Linh Tu and Duy Linh Tu; his daughter-in-law, Nicole Tu; his siblings, Tu Thi Nga, Tu Thi Van Hai, Tu Ngoc Ngung, Tu Ngoc Lien and Tu Ngoc Dung; and five grandchildren.
