GREENWICH, Conn. Figure skating champion Miki Ando wowed local skaters at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich on Saturday. Local skaters and Ando fans braved icy roads to see her up close and to get skating tips from the 2007 and 2011 world champion.
One of the primary focuses of Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich is to support the development of children with an emphasis on leadership and character strengthening, said Sukie McFadden, assistant executive director of the Boys & Girls Club. It was a big treat for us and the club kids to have a chance to meet champion Miki Ando, free skate with her, and witness a demonstration and learn professional skating techniques.
Ando, 25, was also the 2004 World Junior Champion and three-time Japanese National Champion. She is the first and only woman ever to perform and complete a quadruple jump successfully in competition.
