'Unwritten' Singer Headlines Greenwich Fundraiser

GREENWICH, Conn. – You can check out cooking demonstrations, get a bite of food and a sip of wine from more than 60 culinary experts, and hear some live music from British pop star Natasha Bedingfield, at the Greenwich 2011 Food & Wine Festival.

All proceeds from the fundraising festival will go to support the Breast Cancer Alliance of Greenwich, an organization founded in 1996 by resident Mary Waterman, who fought breast cancer until her death in January 1997. The alliance is committed to funding innovative breast cancer research and promoting breast health through education and outreach.

Hosted in conjunction with Greenwich-based Serendipity magazine, the inaugural event will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23, at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

“We’re pleased to be hosting this very special culinary event to Greenwich, benefitting such an important cause,” said Suni Unger, founder and CEO of Serendipity magazine.  “The highlight of the event will be Saturday evening’s grand tasting gala, featuring samplings from the finest restaurants in the area, as well as a performance by pop music star Natasha Bedingfield.”

The festival will feature a culinary village tent with more than 60 exclusive food, wine and spirit experts, BBQ grill masters, Sunday brunch specialties, celebrity book signings, cooking demonstrations, private event tents and live performances by Bedingfield, known for her hit "Unwritten," as well as Rusted Root and Sister Hazel, among others.

Demonstrations will include The Art of Pizza, with five-time world pizza champion Bruno DiFabio; Grilling 101 with celebrity chef Ray Lampe “Dr. BBQ,” and author of the “NFL Gameday Cookbook;” and Chocopologie with Chef Fritz Knipschildt, who will reveal the world of truffles.

Confirmed celebrity guests include Jacque Pépin, Michel Nischan of The Dressing Room restaurant in Westport, Graham Elliot, Stephen Asprinio and Joy Bauer, among others, as well as Greenwich hosting chefs Jon and Laura Brennan of Plum Pure Foods and Rui Correia of Douro. Featured local chefs include Debra Ponzek of Aux Délices in Greenwich, Lynn Saathoff of CB5 Restaurant Group LLC in Greenwich, Bryan Gilmour of 121 Restaurant and Bar in North Salem, N.Y., and Scott Quis of Barcelona.
