United Way's Sole Sisters Raise Funds for Charity

Funds raised at the Greenwich United Way’s sixth annual Sole Sisters Luncheon on April 14 will help pay for programs to help needy Greenwich residents.

The event, chaired by Amy Carbone and Susan Weis, drew by far its largest crowd ever to the Greenwich Country Club. Guest speaker Lisa Birnbach, bestselling author of “The Preppy Handbook,” gave a tongue-in-cheek talk on the preppy lifestyle as it exists today.

The United Sole Sisters are 150 prominent and dedicated women committed to learning about the human service needs of fellow Greenwich residents. During the recession, local nonprofit programs such as the United Way have seen an increased demand for their services. Funds raised at the luncheon will help the United Way strengthen other nonprofits programs in Greenwich.

The luncheon is the Sole Sisters’ primary fundraising activity of the year. The “sisters” and their guests shopped for a good cause at the Fashion Boutique, enjoyed a gourmet meal and heard about the United Way’s good works from its president, Stuart Adelberg.
