Greenwich schools and libraries will be closed on Veterans Day, but your children will still have energy to spare. Here are a few ideas on how to burn some of it off right here in town:
? Young ice skaters and hockey players can kick off the day with a "stick session" at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A "stick session" allows participants to skate with a stick and puck in an informal atmosphere. Sessions are open to any age, and participants must supply their own equipment, including a full-face shield helmet and hockey gloves. An adult must accompany anyone under 8 years old. Proof of Greenwich residency is required, and the fee is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 15.
? Then attend the town's official Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the World War I memorial in front of the Post Office on Greenwich Avenue.
? After the event, give your young ones a patriotic history lesson with a tour of the other memorials in town, including the World War II/Korean War/Vietnam War statues just a short walk up the Avenue.
? From the jungle gyms at Bruce, bundle-up picnics at Binney or biking at Tod's Point, your kids will enjoy spending the last outdoorsy days of fall at any one of Greenwich's parks.

? And if the kids still haven't had their fill of activities, stop by the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, where the doors will be open wide all day.
