The Monger Mingle event at The Hub in Cos Cob on Thursday will benefit Norwalk-based Community Plates. The nonprofit fights food waste by picking up unused food from stores and restaurants and delivering it to pantries and soup kitchens.
Community Plates has volunteer food runners across Fairfield County and New Haven as well as in Ohio, New Mexico and Louisiana.
At the Thursday event, Community Plates will receive 10 percent of the evening's proceeds from sales.
It will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hub, located at 160 E. Putnam Ave. in Cos Cob.
Attendees can sample fare from three of Greenwich’s premier specialty food purveyors.
The event celebrates the grand opening of Fleishers Craft Butchery’s first retail shop in Greenwich. The specialty food purveyors of The Hub will stay open late to host an open house event for the community.
Guests are invited to sample fare from all three shops, in addition to complimentary tastings of beer and wine, sponsored and poured by Cos Cob Liquors. The event is free and open to the public.
Ten percent of the evening’s proceeds from sales made in the shops will benefit the Fairfield County arm of Community Plates, the nonprofit organization committed to ending food insecurity by directly transferring fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants, markets and other food industry sources to food-insecure families throughout the U.S.
