Temple Sholom Gears Up for Hanukkah

Temple Sholom in Greenwich is preparing celebratory events for Hanukkah, which begins at sundown Dec. 1 and ends Dec. 9. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store.

• Toy Drive from Dec. 1 to 21: Bring new, unwrapped toys to collection bins at the temple, 300 E. Putnam Ave., or the UJA Federation offices at 1 Holly Hill Lane. All gifts will be donated to the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty. The toy drive is made possible by the UJA of New York/Westchester and the UJA Federation of Greenwich.

• Interfaith Candle Lighting/Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at Christ Church, 254 E. Putnam Ave., which is co-sponsoring the event. Enjoy hot cider and holiday cheer at this event.

• Selma Maisel Nursery School parties Dec. 3: Come to school with your preschooler and enjoy the holiday together with their friends. Check with your child's teacher for the exact time.

• YCFS Latkes and Pajamas at 5 p.m. Dec. 3: Join Temple Sholom for a Hanukkah edition of Young Children's Family Service with Reb Allison and special guest Sheldon Low. Kids are invited to dress in their pajamas, sing songs, celebrate Hanukkah and Shabbat, and enjoy homemade latkes.

• Temple Sholom Religious School Creative Arts Program Hanukkah Exhibition from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 5: A dazzling art show and special performances to celebrate student achievements. Hanukkah treats to follow.

• Hanukkah Story Time and Music at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8: Welcome new members as Rabbi Mitch tells Hanukkah stories and Cantor Asa leads Hanukkah songs. Finger food will be served.

• "Keep the Lights Burning" concert and community post-Hanukkah party at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 12: The largest event of the season kicks off with a concert by the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces musical ensemble. There will also be a party with a DJ with dancing, food, games, arts and crafts, and more. All local Jewish organizations have been invited to participate.
