Temple Sholom Awarded for Excellence

Temple Sholom in Greenwich received seven awards for synagogue excellence at the recent biennial convention of the Metropolitan New York Region of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Steve Katz, Temple Sholom's immediate past president, was honored with an Ernest L. Rothchild Award, recognizing his outstanding synagogue leadership throughout the conservative movement.

"Steve's passion for Conservative Judaism was present in all areas of his leadership as past president," Rabbi Mitchell M. Hurvitz, senior rabbi of Temple Sholom, said in a statement. "He helped bring Temple Sholom to the next level in programming, ritual, community, finances and communications and is well deserving of this honor."

Temple Sholom's seven awards for excellence were in categories of Adult Education, Bulletin and Periodicals, Early Childhood Center, Israel Awareness, Religious School, Special Programs and Website. For the third year in a row, the Selma Maisel Nursery School, Temple Sholom's Early Childhood Center, received an award for its excellence.
