Everyone's got a story to tell at the Greenwich Historical Society's third "Story Barn" event, featuring local raconteurs and their thoughts on weddings, marriage and commitment.
Bonnie Levenson, a historical society board member, brought the idea to life at an event last fall, when storytellers regaled an audience with stories of Greenwich.
"It's the oldest entertainment in the world," said Levenson. "And this is also an opportunity to bring people into the historical society who have never been."
Levenson began performing standup comedy and was exposed to a world of writing comedy, improvising and storytelling. Two years ago, she went to a New York City event thrown by The Moth, a non-for-profit organization devoted to live storytelling told without notes.
"I fell in love with it so much. I volunteer with an outreach program with The Moth and I just love it," said Levenson. "It's trumping comedy for me because you can be very funny, very sad, very poignant, and it all comes from a real place. And I wanted to bring it to Greenwich. There are so many funny, brilliant entertaining people here."
Levenson tonight will emcee the historical society's third Story Barn event, featuring Greenwich locals with their own five minute musings in conjunction with the historical society's exhibition "From This Day Forward: Looking Back at Greenwich Weddings."
The lineup will feature the Rev. Jim Lemler of Christ Church, cartoonist and columnist Jerry Dumas, board member Roxanne Vanderbilt, hotel executive Scott Williams, travel guru Kathleen Snodden, Greenwich Realtor Chris Finlay, event and wedding planner Deanna Marano and local storyteller David Luhman.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30. Light refreshments will be included in the ticket price of $15 for nonmembers and $10 for members. For ticket information, call 203-869-6899 or buy online.
