GREENWICH, Conn. Stephen Mecsery of Old Greenwich died on May 14. He was 89.
Mecsery founded Cos Cob Radio and television in 1945, selling and repairing the first televisions in town.
Born on Sept. 12, 1922 in Palmerton, Pa., he was the son of Agnes and Stephen Mecsery. The family moved to Stamford shortly after. Mecsery was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy in the Normandy campaign.
An avid ham radio operator from the age of 15, he was a member of the Stamford Amateur Radio Association. He enjoyed mentoring new amateur radio enthusiasts. Mecsery also enjoyed racing his Bricklin race car at a racetrack in Lime Rock, Conn. He collected antique cars, radios and televisions and loved repairing them.
Mecsery is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy; two sons, Sean (Susan) Mecsery, of Stamford and Stephen James (Shiela) Mecsrey, of Cos Cob; two daughters, Diane (Larry) Fowler, of Stamford and Sandra (John) Kamen, of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.
