Greenwich's Swim Across America Leaders Mark World Cancer Day

STAMFORD, Conn. – Leaders from the Stamford-based Alliance for Gene Therapy and the Stamford-Greenwich Swim Across America joined forced to mark World Cancer Day and raise funds to fight cancer.

Leaders from the two local groups attended the Kickoff Committee Meeting at the alliance’s headquarters in Stamford on Feb. 4. That was to prepare for this summer’s major fundraiser. The swim – which raised more than $500,000 last year – is slated for Saturday, June 21. You can register and find more information online.

"ACGT has granted over $24 million to top cancer scientists and researchers, and funded life-saving clinical trials, since its genesis in 2001,” said Barbara Netter, the alliance’s president and co-founder. “It’s with the help and generosity of Swim Across America that we’re able to make a difference in the war on cancer.”

“We’re gearing up for another successful swim, and hope to see both familiar and new faces on the beach,” said Jacque Lang, Swim Across America’s event director.
