The Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility was busier than usual Monday with people dropping off the unwanted items and recyclables in honor of America Recycles Day. Syrik Lopez, an employee at the Goodwill donation center, said he had seen a good turnout of people dropping things off.
"People regularly stop by Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays," he said. "It sometimes depends on the weather. I think a lot of people will turnout and donate their things."
Sally Davies, chair of the Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board, said donating unwanted yet usable items plays an important part in recycling. Those castoffs found in the attic may still benefit someone in need.
America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day that is dedicated to advocating recycling programs in the United States. It was established in 1997 to make Americans aware of how recycling can help others.
