Sen. Frantz Supports Tesei in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – This is a letter by state Sen. L. Scott Frantz in support of First Selectman Peter Tesei for re-election:

Good leadership begins with a strong but well-balanced personality, the ability to inspire others to work for common goals because they want to and the capability to unite others into a team capable of dealing with challenges as they arise. We residents of the town of Greenwich are very fortunate to have Peter Tesei as our senior ranking municipal official, who has for nearly four years demonstrated outstanding leadership on all fronts, be they dealing with devastating acts of nature, the town’s finances or our infrastructure needs. Whether circumstances involved emergency conditions or more routine decision-making, First Selectman Tesei on all occasions has been able to quickly and thoroughly assess the conditions the town has faced and then intelligently and rapidly moved to find solutions.

Peter’s capabilities to lead on the issue of finances have benefitted us all immensely. The ability to influence the outcome of many decisions made by the BET has resulted in a municipal balance sheet that is the envy of the state and allowed for a lower increase in the mill rate each year during the last three years. Service levels remain excellent and department morale high. I can attest that the General Assembly in Hartford could learn a lot from Peter about fiscal responsibility.

Peter’s response to the unforeseen destruction from the March 2010 storm as well as the anticipated damage from Tropical Storm Irene has earned him and his outstanding team of first responders the distinction of being the “best practices” example in the state from the Department of Emergency and Homeland Security to be used as a template throughout Connecticut as well as the country. I witnessed the leadership within the walls of the Emergency Operations Center, where Peter lived with his family for three days, and remain impressed.

Importantly, Peter has a demeanor that inspires individuals to not only freely offer their ideas and suggestions, but also to roll up their sleeves and work very hard towards collective goals. He is a very good listener and a very thoughtful decision maker. Having worked with him on a great many issues over the last three years, I have witnessed the seriousness with which he does his job as well as the affection that Peter, a life long resident, has for the town and its citizens. He is precisely the kind of chief elected official that the town of Greenwich needs and deserves for another two years.
