Pulitzer-Winning Poet To Speak in Greenwich

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Franz Wright will read selections of his work at the Greenwich Library on May 1 as part of “The Poet’s Voice” series.

Wright, who has been called one of the finest poets of his generation, won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book “Walking to Martha’s Vineyard,” a collection spawned from his drug addiction and regeneration. An earlier book of poetry, “The Beforelife,” was a Pulitzer finalist in 2002.

The Manacher Poetry Fund and the Friends of Greenwich Library fund the series. Wright will read from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Wright was born in Vienna and grew up around the United States. He is the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, James Wright, and the two are the only parent/child pair to have won the prize in the same category.

He is the author of 10 full-length collections of poetry and has received many awards, including two national Endowment for the Arts grants, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Fellowship and the PEN/Voelcker prize. He has taught at several colleges and was the Jacob Ziskind Visiting Poet-in-Residence at Brandeis University.
