Professor Takes on Theology, Music in Greenwich

Conversations on Courage & Faith, a lecture series filled with artistic performances and speakers, will host a performance and talk next month by Jeremy Begbie, a Duke University Divinity School professor. His theme will be "The Sound of Freedom: Music of Liberation."

"Through harmonious music, we hear a kind of 'space,' which unlike the space we can see with our eyes, involves intense togetherness while preserving and promoting difference," said Begbie. He will show how musicians have combined sounds to create harmony for centuries. Begbie, a well-known writer and lecturer, founded the Theology Through the Arts project. The project's goal is to explore how the arts contribute to the renewal of Christian theology. Begbie has also written many books, including "Theology, Music and Time" and "Voicing Creation's Praise: Toward a Theology of the Arts."

The performance-lecture will be held Saturday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Center for the Arts, 299 Greenwich Ave. Tickets are $21 and can be purchased online. Begbie will be guest speaker at 9:30 a.m. and hold a talk and book signing at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, at Christ Church Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Ave. For more information, call 203-629-1533.
