Practice Makes Savings in Old Greenwich

The pre-game of the Greenwich Sidewalk Sales has begun in Old Greenwich. Scorching heat and some rain did not frighten bargain hunters away on Friday. The three-day sidewalk sale began Thursday and is sponsored by the Old Greenwich Merchants Association. A number of stores have tents and clothing racks set up outside with the latest sale items. Some are even providing iced beverages for their patrons.

Yana Mayerman, owner and manager of Pastiche on Sound Beach Avenue said that almost everything in the store is 50 to 80 percent off the original price. "I had one customer come in and buy a pant suit," said Mayerman. "The pants were originally around $100 and the jacket was about $400. She bought both items for under $100."

Many of the stores are marking their prices aggressively to encourage buyers and push their summer inventory to make room for their fall shipments. "Compared to the original price, I think I got a great deal," said Kerry Brown.

The sidewalk sale ends Saturday. "I love to see my customers with great deals and walk out happy," said Mayerman.
