A pink flag will fly above town hall Friday to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hosted by the Greenwich-based Breast Cancer Alliance.
"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and last year we started with the flag-raising of our pink and white logo at town hall," said Belinda Benincasa, executive director of the alliance.
The alliance is dedicated to funding innovative breast cancer research and promoting breast health through education and outreach. Members include breast cancer survivors, their friends and health-care professionals.
The flag-raising will take place at 11:30 a.m. in front of Town Hall. First Selectman Peter Tesei and Joanne Masin, a longtime supporter of the organization, will hoist the flag, which will fly over Town Hall throughout October. Afterward, Stamford Hospital's Dr. Donna-Marie Manasseh will make a presentation on "Breast Cancer: What's Next?"
"Last year we had about 50 or 60 people show up, and this year we're offering a free box lunch for the first 100 who come," Benincasa said. Libby Coverly Cook Catering will donate the lunches. The Angel Choir of Greenwich will provide music.
