Makeup Guru Duo Launches Line

Makeup gurus Piret Aava and Tamara Palumbo collaborated to launch their new eponymous line of makeup, dubbed Piret and Tamara. The new line is being welcomed on the Greenwich scene after it debuted last week at Warren-Tricomi.

"The one thing the Greenwich clientele really loves is the simplicity of the line," said Palumbo. "In Greenwich, a lot of people don't like to wear makeup or look like they're wearing makeup, so simplicity is key."

The duo has worked for the past five years at Warren-Tricomi. Four years ago, they began negotiating to produce their own line. Palumbo, an upstate New York resident, worked at cosmetic counters in stores straight out of college before coming to the salon. Aava, originally from Estonia, began working with makeup 10 years ago when she moved to the U.S.

"I was modeling, and I was always in makeup artists' cases," said Aava, who began working for Warren-Tricomi in 2004. "When I moved to the States, that was the time I said, 'You know what, I'm going to do what I love to do.'"

Over the summer, the women tried out their products on patrons at the Greenwich salon. During Fashion's Night Out last week, they introduced the line, and the orders have been pouring in.

One product is eye silk, a long-wear silicone eye shadow available in nine colors such Mink, Rockstar and Amethyst, at $35 each. They also make a lightweight gel brow set as well as a lip slip, available in strawberry, apricot and bitten.

"Everyone's been asking for foundation and mascara," said Tamara. "We're very responsive to what the consumer wants. It's not about what we want, it's about you."

Products from the Piret and Tamara line can be purchased at the Warren-Tricomi salon in Greenwich, as well as the other branches in New York City and Los Angeles. It can also be found online at www.piretandtamara.com.
