Letter: Share the Road With Bikes in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – TheDailyGreenwich.com accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Letters may be emailed to letters@thedailygreenwich.com.

To the Editor,

“More people on bikes more often.” That’s the mission of BikesBelong.org. And it has caught on with nationwide success. May is National Bike Month, May 9, was Bike to School Day, May 18 was Bike to Work Day, and various one- to three-month challenges are rolling from now through the summer months.

Here in Greenwich that success is growing a little more slowly, but with gorgeous weather, 125 plus helped kick off our own Bike Month with the 10th Annual Ride for Greenwich on Mother’s Day. Thanks to the following sponsors for helping to make this a safe, family-friendly event once again:

Aux Delices, Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Dave’s Cycle, Fareri Associates, Greenwich Bicycles, River Bicycles, The Silver Shield and Upper Crust Bagels. And many will be enjoying prizes donated by: Arcuri’s Pizza, Bliss Ice cream, Darlene’s Heavenly Desires, Gofer Ice Cream, Chicken Joe’s, Joey B’s, Party Paper and Things and Greenwich Bicycles.

More than 35 additional multi-bike racks will be installed around town on public properties next month, and private developers and businesses like Fareri Associates and Equinox have wisely added bike parking, too (CVS on West Putnam, Fitness Center on Old Track Road). And with road-sharing education growing and multi-use trails on the horizon, more people will be able to ride more often, safely and comfortably in Greenwich. That’s the mission of Greenwich Safe Cycling.

Share the Road, and cycle safe!
