Learn Self-Defense From Greenwich Police

GREENWICH, Conn. – Have you always wanted to learn self-defense? The Greenwich Police Department is sponsoring a free class for women as part of the Special Victims Section proactive approach in helping Greenwich residents reduce their chance of being the victim of a violent crime.

The class will be taught by Greenwich officers trained and certified as instructors in the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu. The training will incorporate elements of Jiu-Jitsu as well as useful tactics to reduce the opportunities for victimization.

Two sessions will be offered tentatively on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on the third floor of the Town of Greenwich Public Safety Complex, 11 Bruce Place. The first session will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the second session will be 7:30 to 9 p.m. Each session is limited to 10 for a total of 20 participants for the fall program. Participants will be selected in the order in which they call.

No equipment is needed for participation, however, a mouthpiece and comfortable workout clothing is recommended.

Contact Sgt. Mark Zuccerella, Special Victims Section supervisor, at 203-618-8347 to sign up and for more information.
