Learn Emergency Safety for Your Greenwich Pet

GREENWICH, Conn. – Learn how to be a hero for your pet in an emergency with veterinarian Dr. Marcus Suppo and other animal safety experts Sunday, April 15, in Greenwich.

Suppo will share advice on the best ways to keep your pet safe from a health perspective at the first-ever Greenwich Historical Society pet-centric event, run in conjunction with the “Everyday Heroes: Greenwich First Responders” exhibition on display now until Aug. 26.

Greenwich Emergency Medical Services members will be on hand to demonstrate pet first aid and CPR. Bandilane Canine Center will show how the whole family can contribute to raising a well-behaved dog, and animal specialist Cathryn Long will give tips on traveling with the family pet and how to have him interact safely with strangers. Adopt-A-Dog Greenwich representatives will explain how to adopt the right pet for your family.

Kathy Boyle of Chapin Hill Advisors will offer advice on planning financially for a pet, preparing your pet sitter so as to avoid disasters and mitigating the risks of pet ownership.

Greenwich Police K-9 Officer Mike Macchia and canine “officer” Tyro will demonstrate how working dogs contribute to the safety of a community.

Drop to the event between 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vanderbilt Education Center, 39 Strickland Road in Cos Cob. The cost of the program is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers. A pet-related craft for all ages will be included. To sign up, visit the Historical Society’s website or call 203-869-6899, ext. 10.
