World-renowned paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Greenwich Library on his four decades of research about the mysteries of man's origin and evolution.
Leakey was born into archeological expeditions and began following in the steps of his parents as a young boy. His first expedition began in 1968 to Koobi Fora with a team from the National Museums of Kenya. From 1968 to 1989, many discoveries were made, including early Stone Age tools that are more than 1.9 million years old. He also discovered a 1.6-million-year-old skeleton of Nariokotome Boy, also known as Turkana Boy.
He is the son of Louis and Mary Leakey, an archeological team devoted to discovering the origins of mankind. Leakey is also the author of several books, including his most recent, "Wildlife Wars", which chronicles his adventures to save the African elephants and his tenure as director of Kenya Wildlife Services. He is an anthropology professor at Stony Brook University in New York.
