The exhibit, which closes Oct. 20, will enthrall children and scientists alike with its investigation of the age-old question “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?,” according to the Bruce Museum. Follow the journey of man's fascination with eggs as symbols of rebirth and renewal since the dawn of mankind.
The exhibit explores the evolution of the egg, its prominent inclusion in creation myths worldwide, the complex simplicity of its design, and the inspiration it imparts on artists who have painted, bejeweled, photographed, and written about them for more than a millennium.
It offers an array of bird eggs, edible eggs, ugly eggs and magnificent eggs. Featured are several spectacular eggs and artworks borrowed from Betteridge Jewelers, the Ukrainian Museum, the Library of Stamford and the Museum of Russian Icons, as well as items from the Bruce Museum's own collection.
