How Are You Beating the Heat in Greenwich?

GREENWICH, Conn. — Lauren Browne works at Greenwich Point beach’s snack stand just a short distance from the refreshing waves of Long Island Sound. But while customers can leave with their snacks and cool off in the water, Browne has to find other ways to beat the heat.

“I try to open the fridge and air myself out,” she said. “I have an ice cream every now and then. After work, I usually go for a dip.” The snack stand is always fully stocked, but on very hot days, most customers prefer drinks to snacks.

“It’s less crowded when the beach is really hot. People don’t like to have their kids outside because it could be dangerous,” she said.

Despite the heat, the town has not opened official cooling centers. But residents can always cool down at the beaches, pools, libraries and senior centers.

Tuesday night will be mostly clear in Greenwich, with a low of around 67, according to the National Weather Service. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 86.
