Have Fun With Our Founding Fathers

Grab your picnic blankets and sunscreen, and celebrate Greenwich's 370th birthday at Greenwich Point on Sunday, July 18. You’ll see, reenacted, the conflicts among the Dutch, English and Indians, in 1640, when the town began. Who knew a bash at the beach could be so educational?

The Siwanoy Indians once fished where residents will be gathering for this The Founders Day Family Picnic. Historian Missy Wolfe wrote the play, called "Highlights of Our Founders." It’s being co-produced by the Greenwich Historical Society and the Acting Company of Greenwich. "There will also be music from the Sound Beach Community Band, exhibits and fun things for families" said Michele Couture, the society’s site manager.

If you don’t want to pack your own picnic, you can buy one from Green Market, arranged by the historical society and catered by Cai Pandolfino. The menu includes turkey and veggie sandwiches, chips, lemonade, cookies and brownies. The cost: $40 for two and $80 for four. Picnic baskets will be available at Innis Arden Cottage at 11:30 a.m. the day of the event.
