Cooney, who has owned a home in Greenwich, turns 69 on Tuesday. The author was born May 10, 1947, in Greenwich.

Cooney writes suspense, romance, horror, and mystery books for young adults. She is a master of mixing spellbinding suspense with thought-provoking insight into teenagers' lives. One of her most popular books is "The Face On The Milk Carton."

She has also written several novels, including "Safe as the Grave" (1979), "Sun, Sea and Boys" (1984), "The Rah Rah Girls" (1987), "Forbidden" (1993), "The Terrorist" (1997), "Hush Little Baby" (1999), "Goddess of Yesterday" (2002), "Code Orange" (2005), "They Never Came Back" (2009) and "The Lost Songs" (2011).

Her books have received several honors, including an IRA-CBC Children's Choice award and being named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults.

Her book "Diamonds in the Shadow" was named a 2008 ALA/YALSA Quick Pick and was a nominee for the Edgar Allan Poe Award.
