Greenwich Woman Goes From Real Estate to Body Oils

GREENWICH, Conn. – When the economy collapsed, Greenwich resident Cheryl MacCluskey decided to take her business savvy in a different direction, starting in her kitchen.

MacCluskey, a former residential builder and business owner, teamed with friend Madelaine Hane, a massage therapist from New Canaan. The joined forces in spring 2011 to create e.Oil, a line of all natural, organic body care oils.

“We did about six months of research before I started creating these formulas. We tried them out on 100 women and never got any negative responses,” said MacCluskey. “It’s not just about the oil. We’re trying to get the message out about trying to take care of you body, not just your face. It’s really a health benefit."

MacCluskey experimented with high-grade essential oils and other organic ingredients to develop e.Oil, which is made mostly from avocado oil. “It’s all green. It’s 100 percent natural – you could basically drink them,” said MacCluskey. “These essential oils have been around for over 4,000 years and are documented for having these properties that do help. I like that I can put this on my skin and know there is nothing that is going to harm my skin.”

Each e.Oil has an aroma-therapeutic dominant scent. In Happiness, for instance, the dominant scent is lemon; in Relax, it’s lavender. So far, the line consists of eights oils, eight body scrubs and four toners. Four of the scents are formulated for physical benefits, and four are for emotional well-being. “Your whole body is a living breathing organ that should be taken care of,” she says.

Anti-inflammatory can help with skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis and even poison ivy. Circulation is to improve blood flow in the skin. “It’s sort of like exercise … like getting a massage, it’s a work out – it gets your heart going and it puts a nice glow onto your skin,” she said.

MacCluskey says she and Hane are in talks to develop a cream line with a plastic surgeon and will hopefully receive an endorsement from a not-yet-named but high-profile guru.

“We want to bring it to the masses of people. We started out spreading the word and we have it in three spas now,” said MacCluskey. “We’re two single moms, and we’re having a great time doing this. It’s enlightening, and we’ve learned so much.”
