The 4-year old Teen-Works project is called “Recycle for Sight.” Since its inception, Teen-Works members have received donations of more than 4,000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses. The collected glasses are cleaned, sorted and delivered to the regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers in New Jersey for distribution to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
The Greenwich Lions work locally in a variety of ways to improve life for youth, seniors and particularly the visually and hearing impaired.
The Lions Foundation founded and continues to support the Greenwich Lions Large Print Collection at Greenwich Library, helps fund research work in the areas of juvenile diabetes and macular degeneration through the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation at Yale-New-Haven Hospital, among other projects.
With other area Lions clubs, it established the Low Vision Centers of Fairfield and New Haven Counties. They raise funds through activities such as the annual Egg Hunt, and the fall grapefruit sale, in addition to an annual appeal.
