GREENWICH, Conn. Second through eighth graders from the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich placed second in an academic decathlon in Bristol this month.
Kids from six clubs statewide competed in eight events at the Boys & Girls Club in Bristol on Feb. 4. The events included Math, Club History, Lego Architecture, Music, Obstacle Course, Team Logic Puzzle, English and Team Word Chain. Greenwich club members proved victorious by coming in first place in the respective group puzzle, Lego architecture and music categories.
Third through seventh graders Valeria Ospina, Chloe Smith, Francesco Violanti, Gigi Barter, Jack Barter, Robby Barter, Daniel Estrella, Daniel Maddox, and Emma Schuren credited their success to teamwork and said they were looking forward to a chance at the title next year.
Lower Naugatuck may hold the cup, but not for long, says Stephanie Pugliese, education/technology coordinator of the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich.
The competing Boys & Girls Clubs included Greenwich, Stamford, Bristol, Hartford, Lower Naugatuck Valley (Shelton), and Wakeman (Southport).
As members of the Connecticut Association for Connecticut Boys & Girls Clubs, each club hosts a variety of different activities in the spirit of fun and academic achievement throughout the year. The Greenwich Club is next to host a statewide broom ball tournament at a date to be determined. Members participate in the Connecticut Association Challenges because they enjoy them, they like to support one another, and it also gives them an opportunity to visit other Boys & Girls Clubs around the State.
