Type O-negative and Type A-positive blood supplies have dropped below sufficient levels and are urgently needed by the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Type O-negative blood is universal and can be given to anyone, regardless of his or her blood type, and is frequently used in emergencies. Each day, the Northeast Division of the Red Cross needs to collect 3,000 units of blood for patients.
The American Red Cross is appealing to each eligible individual, regardless of blood type, to sign up for the following blood drives in August and September:
Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Greenwich Hospital from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m
Friday, Sept. 9 at St. Mary Parish from 12:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 12 at Temple Sholom from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
,Thursday, Sept. 22 at Greenwich Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To donate blood and platelets through the American Red Cross, individuals must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health.
