Paper dolls held a playtime appeal for generations in the past, and the Greenwich Historical Society is bringing them back. Bring the whole family to the Greenwich Historical Society's "hands on, minds on" wedding paper doll-making workshop planned in conjunction with its show on the history of Greenwich weddings.
During two sessions on Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 and 3 p.m., your family can work together to explore the past and create wedding attire for the future, complete with paper, scissors and lace. A special mini-runway will be built for all participants to show off their work. A tour of the exhibition, "From This Day Forward: Looking Back at Greenwich Weddings," is included.
The workshop, sponsored by the Perrot Memorial Library and the Greenwich Historical Society, will be held at the Greenwich Historical Society's Vanderbilt Education Center at 39 Strickland Road in Cos Cob. It will be conducted by Timothy D. Bellavia, an award-winning children's author, illustrator and educator. Recently, Bellavia presented his doll-making curriculum on the International Day of Tolerance at the United Nations on behalf of the "We Are Family Foundation."
The workshops are for ages 4 and up, and an adult must accompany all children. Reservations are required for this free event by calling 203-869-6899 or emailing assistant@greenwichhistory.org. Indicate which session and how many will be attending.
