GREENWICH, Conn. An Oktoberfest featuring German beers and wines, gourmet chow and an oompah band put plenty of oomph into the Greenwich United Way 2011-2012 Community Campaign.
Attendance at the affair, which took place Sept. 24 at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, far outstripped that of the Oktoberfests of 2009 and 2010, according to event chairs Liz Boutry, Elizabeth Cook and Terry Lamantia.
The chairs credited the organizing skills, energy and imagination of their committee members and scores of volunteers, who worked over the summer to produce the event. Greenwich United Way President Stuart Adelberg thanked all the supporters in the crowd and the many sponsors and underwriters whose donations contributed to the financial success of the evening.
The event featured a performance by the Incredible Bavarians Oompah Band, German beers and wines to go with a gourmet meal prepared by Matt Miller Culinary Productions, and dancing to the sounds of Dance to the Music. The evening took place in an Alps and Alpine village setting with décor provided by Carolyn Dempsey Designs.
The Greenwich United Way is committed to targeting needs, mobilizing communities and changing lives. In addition to its work identifying and meeting health and human service needs, it is the largest non-governmental source of funding for local health and human service programs. The organizations annual community-wide fundraising campaign supports local services intended to strengthen children and families, support seniors, foster self-sufficiency and assist individuals in crisis.
