Get a Floating Seat to Greenwich Town Party

GREENWICH, Conn. – Residents who weren’t lucky enough to snag a ticket for the sold-out Greenwich Town Party on May 26 can still watch the festival’s performances, including headliner Paul Simon, by boat.

Event organizers have received approval from the Greenwich Police and harbor master to broadcast the party to boaters in Indian harbor. Last year, several boaters enjoyed the music but couldn’t see the stage. organizers said. Broadcasting the show to boaters in the harbor will allow more residents to enjoy the festivities. Boaters will watch the show on a 16-foot by 10-foot high-definition screen.

Twelve-time Grammy winner Simon will be joined onstage by reggae legends The Wailers, blues artists the Tedeschi Trucks Band, gospel legend Kirk Franklin and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

Boaters who plan to watch from the harbor should take note of the tides on May 26: low tide is expected to be at 9:56 p.m., high tide at 3:45 p.m.

Tickets for the party sold out in four days, but organizers have created a waiting list in case additional tickets become available between now and May 26. Any additional tickets will be made available on a lottery basis. Residents can sign the waiting list on the event's website.

In an effort to make the event sustainable, the event's founder, Greenwich resident Ray Dalio, has pledged to match all donations made to the nonprofit Greenwich Town Party. Dalio will pay half of the locally-funded 75 percent subsidy if others in the town contribute toward the other half.

There are three levels of supporters for the Greenwich Town Party. “Fans” are those who contribute $100 or more and have the first opportunity to purchase 2013 tickets; “Founders” commit to $5,000 each year for three years and receive six Sponsor tickets each year. “Rock Stars” commit to $25,000 or more each year for three years and receive 10 Sponsor tickets a year. In addition to these three supporter levels, every person who donates $10 or more will receive advance ticketing notifications for future Greenwich Town Party events.Donations can be made at the Town Party website. Sponsorship inquiries should be directed to Diane Generous at generousdiane@aol.com.
