Greenwich resident Ilse Voight was delighted to have a visit from Santa Claus at the holiday party for Family Centers' Friendly Connections program. More than 100 program participants and community members were treated to lunch at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday for the occasion.
"Because so many of our participants are primarily homebound, the annual holiday party is a special time for them to get out, socialize and spend time with people they only know over the telephone," said Rebecca Lippel, manager of Friendly Connections.
The program offers teleconference-based support and education courses that allow older adults to take part in lively discussions over the phone. Disabled adults and seniors also may take part in the program's home-visiting service and check-in phone calls.
The Serendipity Chorale serenaded guests with holiday tunes while employees from UBS Financial Services of Greenwich and members of the Family Centers' board of directors served the meal. Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Nonnatech and Stop & Shop sponsored the lunch. Greenwich Girl Scout Troop 50650 donated holiday cookies for dessert.
