Banchet Jaigla, who grew up surrounded by the lush landscapes and beauty of Thailand, is seeing her vision of a new flower shop come to life on East Putnam Avenue. "Chasing after butterflies in a rice field and watching flowers hanging from the trees it has always been my passion," Jaigla said. "I grew up with it, but I didn't know I had a gift for it."
After snowstorms pushed back the Feb. 14 opening date, the New York-based designer said she is set to open her shop April 1. The sleek dark caviar walls and tall ceilings bring a New York City element into the heart of Greenwich.
Jaigla said she opened up the low ceilings of the corner store and found intricately detailed wood paneled ceilings. "I couldn't resist this space. It is the most amazing corner, and I wanted to create something very sexy, inviting and all about the color of flowers."
Greenwich will be Jaigla's fourth store, and she said she feels immensely proud. "I feel really grateful." With 25 years of experience, Jaigla has designed arrangements for restaurants such as Windows on the World and Le Bernardin and has also done designs for the Thai Royal Family.
Jaigla decided to open a store in town because she realized how many of her clients in New York were from Greenwich. "Flowers are so beautiful, you don't need a lot of junk in it. And what we do is a little but unusual. It will be something you have never seen before." Banchet Flowers is known for its orchids, particularly in the way they are cut and the modern designs used. Jaigla said, "It is something that will throw you off,"
