GREENWICH, Conn. Edward Michael Bacon, Jr., 81, died at his home in Greenwich on Tuesday, March 27, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Bacon was born Aug. 25, 1930, in New York City to the late Edward M. Bacon and Edna Honora Bacon. He moved to Greenwich in 1946 and graduated from Brunswick School in 1948. Bacon graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1952 and enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving as a second lieutenant in Japan during the Korean War.
On June 16, 1956, Bacon married Isabelle Healey. He then started on a more than 40-year career on Wall Street. The last 20 years of his career, Bacon worked as a partner at Kidder-Peabody and as a floor partner at the New York Stock Exchange.
Bacon was a lector at St. Michael the Archangel in Greenwich and Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, Fla. He was a member of Greenwich Country Club, where he served on the board of governors and the golf and greens committees. He was also a member of Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach and an active member of the U.S. Golf Association and the course rating committee of the Metropolitan Golf Association.
Before and during his retirement, Bacon volunteered many hours of service to Covenant House, Kids in Crisis, Habitat for Humanity and several other charitable organizations. He also sponsored the education of a young woman, who is now a junior at Cathedral High School in the Archdiocese of New York City, via the Inter-City Scholarship Fund.
Bacon had a soft spot for children, particularly his own grandchildren, who were the joy and purpose of his later life. He was an avid golfer, but also enjoyed watching whatever sports his grandchildren were playing.
He is survived by Isabelle, his wife of 55 years; his brother Jack (Gail); his sister Missy (Jim) Ahrens; his sons, E. Michael (Leslie) Bacon III and Thomas H. (Katie) Bacon of Greenwich; his daughters, Cary (Paul) Winslow of Far Hills, N.J., and Beth (Steve) Bacon of Brooklyn, N.Y., 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Bacon, and a sister, Nancy Johansen.
