Children from the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich got the chance to select their favorites from a collection of 1,500 new and gently used books at an event held April 13.
Children mobbed tables covered with boxes of books organized by grade level, looking for their favorite titles for themselves and family members. The books were collected by the Greenwich Alliance for Education to promote Greenwich Librarys program, Greenwich Reads Together. After selecting their choices, the children boarded the Alliances storymobile to hear a story.
The program is designed to nourish a love of reading and literature by building community connections through a shared reading of a single book. This year's book is The Book Thief, by Markus Zusark. The novel is about a young girls love of books and unique perspective of unfolding events in Nazi Germany. The key element of the story is a desire to read and share books.
