GREENWICH, Conn. If youre looking to do some gardening before winter or have some extra time to volunteer, the Armstrong Court Community Garden is looking for help from Greenwich residents.
The 15,000-square-foot garden space started three years ago to create a space for planting for members of the public housing complex and community members who don't have their own areas. It encompasses an organic vegetable garden, a native garden and a Butterfly Teaching Garden at Armstrong Court.
Patty Sechi, a Melrose Avenue resident who kick-started the gardens rebirth, says the garden is not only a gift to the residents and to the community. It is also a teaching tool for children and adults who would otherwise not learn about gardening or have the opportunity to enjoy the freshest, most nutritious organic produce.
The community garden needs people now to work one to two hours winterizing the garden and planting small shrubs, which were a gift from a local garden shop.
