The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m May 5 at l’escale at the Delamar Greenwich Harbor, supports the 75,000 state resident living with Alzheimer’s and their 177,000 caregivers.
Darien residents Claire Hunter, Lisa Koorbusch and Meredith McBride invite the community to join them at this fifth annual event.
An award-winning actor, best-selling author and philanthropist, Harper can be seen co-starring alongside Will Smith in “Concussion” and in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me.”
He is the author of four New York Times best-sellers and has earned seven NAACP Image Awards for his writing and acting. In 2014, People Magazine named him one of their Sexiest Men Alive.
But it is through his work on the President’s Cancer Panel that Harper has witnessed the impact that research can have on a disease.
“Research has led to the development of diverse interventions to reduce the risk of cancer and more effectively treat some cancers, enabling many individuals to survive diagnoses that previously were almost universally fatal,” Harper said. “I am hopeful that increased research dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease will produce a similar outcome and that we can find a cure in the near future.” he adds.
Celebrating Hope has raised more than $1 million for Alzheimer’s and dementia care and research. Event tickets, which are $350 each, are available for purchase online or via phone at 860-828-2828.
