Westchester Resident to Lead "Red" Luncheon in Greenwich

Even though Jean Connolly is rarely able to spend more than 15 minutes sipping her morning cup of coffee while taking in the panoramic views of the Hudson River, the Croton resident said the ritual offers her a necessary bit of solace before her busy day.

“That’s my time for tranquility,” she said. “That’s my Zen time.”

That routine is also Connolly’s way of keeping a healthy heart, which she recommends to everyone since heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. As a current member of Go Red for Women's Executive Leadership Team for Westchester and Fairfield counties, it is her mission to spread that message.

“Women are caretakers and we all have a ‘we can do this, we can do that’ attitude,” she added. “We end up putting ourselves and our health on the back burner, which affects our loved ones and our lifestyle.”

Connolly counts herself among that majority of people who neglect their health from time to time. She is a working mom who understands the stresses of juggling a career, family and good health.

“It’s all about maintaining a balance. If you find that you’re skipping exercise, take the stairs in your building instead of the elevator or park your car at the opposite end of the parking lot,” she said.

Attention to the Go Red movement is growing, Connolly adds. She said she sees more men and women participating in the American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day than in past years.

At BNY Mellon Wealth Management in White Plains, where she is a senior director, she asks that all men wear a red tie or shirt.

“I like to think we are leaders in elevating awareness in heart disease,” she said of the Go Red Society. “There is a misconception that it is found only among men.”
