Cos Cob Woman's Cupcakes To Be Featured In Serendipity

GRENWICH, Conn, -- Jody Miska-Orrico of Cos Cob is featured in the September issue of Serendipity magazine for making more than an estimated 2,000 cupcakes the last 15 years as a "class mom."

All of her class party cupcakes start with a box of vanilla cake mix and white frosting, and get creative from there. Using various candy, fondant, cookies, party treats and more, Miska-Orrico has used her creativity to turn these treats into bunnies, a summer day at the beach, Legos, snowmen, Halloween monsters and more.

The issue of the magazine is on newsstands now.

Here are two of her recipes:

BEACH BEAR Graham crackers Sour belt candy ($11.95 per pound at Sweet Rexie’s in Fairfield Teddy Grahams Drink umbrellas Gumballs Decorator’s icing (in any color you like) 1. Frost cupcakes with white frosting. 2. Grind graham crackers into crumbs and roll cupcakes in them to coat. 3. Place a piece of sour belt candy slightly longer than the size of a Teddy Graham on the cupcake. 4. Put a small dot of frosting on the back of a Teddy Graham and stick the bear to the belt candy. 5. Place a drink umbrella alongside the sunbather. 6. Put a gumball in front of the beach umbrella. 7. Draw a bathing suit on the bear with decorator’s icing. (Draw an X for the top and an upside down V for the bottom. For a boy, draw a square.)

Black food coloring White fondant ($10 for 24 ounces, wilton.com)or foil wrapped chocolate eyeballs ($10 for 40, candywarehouse.com) Yellow and black or blue licorice lace ($12.99 for 2 pounds, oldtimecandy.com) Gummy teeth ($16 including decorative container, dylanscandybar.com) 1. Tint the white frosting gray with black food coloring and frost your cupcakes. 2. Set in gummy teeth. 3. Roll white fondant into balls for the eyes (or place foil wrapped chocolate eyeballs above the teeth). 4. Use black or blue licorice lace cut in different lengths for the hair. 5. Place a small piece of yellow licorice lace above the teeth for the nose.
