Coffee With The Curator: Continuing The Conversation On Greenwich Voices

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Voices is definitely not your average exhibition.

"Coffee with the Curator" will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. July 9 at the Greenwich Historical Society, 39 Strickland Road, Cos Cob.

"Coffee with the Curator" will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. July 9 at the Greenwich Historical Society, 39 Strickland Road, Cos Cob.

Beginning in October 2014, under the direction of curator Karen Frederick, conceptual artists and guest curators Karina Aguilera Skvirsky and Liselot van der Heijden ranged throughout town to record and edit answers to a specific list of questions posed to residents of all ages and walks of life, according to a press release.

The goal was to chronicle how residents described life in Greenwich and then to create an anonymous oral portrait of the town on the occasion of its 375th birthday.

On Thursday, the Greenwich Historical Society will host a free, behind-the-scenes coffee-hour tour of the exhibition. Frederick will discuss how the exhibition was conceived and developed and talk about the method of chronicling local history.

Guests will have an opportunity to discuss their own responses to the exhibition questions and to share their thoughts about the show.

Greenwich Voices, supported by a generous gift from Russ and Debbie Reynolds, is a true multimedia departure for the historical society. The project pushes new boundaries, illustrating how glimpses into daily life, past or present, can provide context and shape the way future generations interpret history, according to a press release. All of the recordings complied, including those not used for the exhibition, will be saved in the society library and archives and will serve as a unique time capsule to be shared on the town's 400th birthday in 2040.
