GREENWICH, Conn. Two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Bill Harley will use song and story to paint a comedic picture of growing up and family life at a show Friday in Greenwich to benefit the Connecticut Storytelling Center.
Harley, along with student storytellers, will present Once & Twice Upon a Time on Friday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Central Middle School, at 9 Indian Rock Lane. Harley has toured nationally in theaters, schools, libraries, festivals and conferences.
Bill does mostly stories hes written about growing up and being a kid, and he really captures the essence of what it mans to be a kid, so thats going to be the kind of storytelling the audience will hear on Friday, said Bill Wright, a member of Connecticut Storytelling Center and a teacher at Kensico Elementary School in Valhalla, N.Y., where Harley recently played.
Connecticut Storytelling Center was founded in 1984 to provide a way for people of all ages to experience the age-old art of storytelling. The center sponsors an annual state storytelling festival at Connecticut College in New London during April. But this year, the organization will broaden its horizons to include other towns, including Greenwich.
This area of Connecticut has a very active storytelling community so we thought it would be nice to spread the events of the festival around a bit to get more of the state involved, said Wright.
Once & Twice Upon A Time is a family concert for ages 5 and up. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 children under 12. They can be purchased online or at the door. For more information call 860-439-2764.
