When looking for eyebrow raising jewelry or a new scarf for fall, consider an alternative to Greenwich Ave. Perhaps the Bruce Museum gift shop.
"A lot of people are surprised at what we have here," said Anne DeAngelo, a gift shop volunteer. " Things are unusual and the children love it."
The gift shop has the feel of a treasures-filled boutique tucked away in a small town. Retail Manager Justine Matteis has given the shop a makeover. It's no longer a place to buy museum souvenirs or fossils but an all-purpose shop with books on art and fashion, glassware, fun summer bags and jewelry from local designers. "Justine has a good sense of what people like," said gift shop volunteer Olympia Chiappetta.
The shop is usually staffed by two friendly, enthusiastic volunteers. Chiappetta and DeAngelo are long-time friends who used to work at a doctor's office together and are now veteran volunteers at the mseum gift shop. "We meet such wonderful people and have such a great time working here," said DeAngelo.
