Bruce to Hold Benefit Under the Big Top

You won't believe your eyes as the circus comes to the Bruce Museum with the "Circus! Family and Fun Under the Big Top" special event featuring a festive afternoon of stilt waters, jugglers, a magician, contortionists and strolling performers. Cast members from the Circus and Go program of the Big Apple Circus will strut their stuff under a specially designed tent throughout the fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. You can even join the circus yourself and try your hand at plate spinning or juggling.

The family benefit is in support of the museum's exhibit, "Circus! Art and Science Under the Big Top," which is on display until January. The exhibit features more than 65 objects, including an authentic swallowing sword, costumes, circus posters and works of circus art by Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall, said Mike Horyczun, museum public relations director.

Proceeds of the event will support the day-to-day operations of the museum and fund for special exhibits. Tickets are $75 for adults, $25 for children, and free for children 3 and under. Patron level tickets, which include special benefits, are available for $250, $500, $750 and $1,000. For more information, call 203-413-6761 or email Jen Bernstein, special events manager.
