Bruce Hosts Circus Family Day

Join the Bruce Museum for a day of circus-themed family fun, including an entertainment extravaganza of classic circus routines presented by a real clown.

"Circus Family Day," from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, is being held in conjunction with the museum's exhibit, "Circus! Art and Science Under the Big Top!" The exhibit, which will be on view until Jan. 11, features more than 65 objects. They include authentic swallowing swords and costumes, historic photographs and fine art by such artists as Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall. Interactive stations demonstrating the science and mechanics behind the performing acts and an area where young children can dress up as clowns are also included.

At Sunday's event, a special gallery hunt through the exhibit will be held, and kids can make hands-on crafts of a ringmaster and clown figures out of recycled materials.

Lisa Lou, a graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, will perform her circus and science show. "Super Circus Stuff!" will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. during the all-day event.

All activities are suitable for children ages 5 and up. The event is open to the public and free with museum admission. The Bruce Museum is at 1 Museum Drive in Greenwich. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and free for children under 5. Bruce Museum members are free. For more information, call the museum at 203-869-0376.
