Babies Can Cuddle Up, Read at Library

In support of National Library Card Signup Month, the Greenwich Library recently launched My First Library Card for babies and toddlers. Cards were previously available for children who could write their names, but this new card gives access to all ages.

"A library card has always been the smartest card of all," says Carol Mahoney, Greenwich Library director. "Families can borrow books and other library material, attend story hours, concerts and special events. And it's all available for free at Greenwich Library."

The library's goal is to encourage reading at an early age. Studies show that children who visit the library regularly and read at home perform better in school. According to a survey conducted by the American Library Association, 44 percent of parents said they bring their children to the library because it's an activity they can do it together. Spending time at the library can enhance children's imaginations and explore new interests.
