Local Resident Brings Youth and Class to Country Club

When you spend a day at Armonk’s Brynwood Golf & Country Club, Jeffrey B. Mendell wants you to feel like you’re vacationing in the Hamptons.

And with live music nights, a casual dress code and cocktails served by the pool, that image isn’t too tough to envision, says the local affiliate of Brynwood Partners LLC.

“We want to make this club young and hipper but still appeal to the parents and grandparents of our younger members,” added the Armonk resident. “Our goal is to be multigenerational.”

Mendell has worked hard to make that happen in the two years since he and his partners acquired what was previously referred to as the Canyon Club. Brynwood is managed by Troon Golf.

An on-site health facility, a business center with Apple computers, a sports lounge with flat screen TVs, a children's theatre and playroom are a few of the amenities that have since been added to Brynwood. The clubhouse and pool have been completely renovated and redecorated by the architectural firm, Hart & Howerton.

Mendell says these additions mirror his goal for Brynwood, which is to partner its youthful atmosphere with top-quality service for members coming from Chappaqua, Bedford, Harrison, Greenwich and Stamford, Conn.

Another example of that partnership is its dinner menu. It offers everything from chicken fingers and fries to gourmet salads and entrees. Much of the food comes from local farms in Westchester, Dutchess and Putnam counties. Mendell says that’s part of Brynwood’s new “farm-to-table philosophy.”

Before acquiring the country club, Mendell and his company, JBM Realty Capital Corp., completed projects ranging from the predevelopment and sale of a 900-unit urban redevelopment project in Hoboken, N.J., to the development and construction of a 55-unit luxury rental apartment project in Greenwich, Conn.

Mendell spends his free time with his wife Leslie, daughter Nikki and son Jason. He also works on perfecting his golf game at Brynwood and had his first hole-in-one this year.
