GREENWICH, Conn. Need a new do for summer? Becker Chicaiza and Sonia Sotire Malloy, both Greenwich business owners, have teamed up for a special haircut event designed to benefit women who are battling cancer.
And they need your hair to make a difference.
SPLURGE, Malloys home décor and jewelry boutique, and Becker Salon will offer complimentary haircuts Sunday, June 10 to support Pantenes Beautiful Lengths program, in partnership with the American Cancer Society.
I have been growing my hair out for over three years in anticipation of this day and I am very excited that I am ready to donate," Malloy said. "I hope that the community will join me in honor of women who are fighting a battle with cancer.
Malloy chose Pantenes program specifically because of the length requirement.
They require eight inches, which is slightly more attainable than other organizations 10 inch requirement, and Pantene Beautiful Lengths donates 100 percent of the hair to provide free real-hair wigs for women with cancer," she said. "I have a close relative who recently lost her hair during cancer treatments and I wanted to further show my support by donating my hair to an organization that focuses solely on women with cancer.
For Beckers part, he said he is committed to making all people feel beautiful.
The salons mission, he said, is to highlight the beauty of every person who enters with the magic touch of our hands and to make this experience an unforgettable moment of great transformation.
What better transformation is there than giving the gift of beauty to someone battling cancer, and ending up with a smart new cut in the process?
Becker Salon will open its doors on Sunday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for complimentary haircuts for donors. Everyone is welcome, the organizers said, as long as hair meets the following requirements:
- A ponytail that is a minimum of eight inches in length
- Clean, dry hair on arrival at the salon (no styling products)
- No permanent color or chemically treated hair (hair treated with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent color will be accepted)
- Not more than five percent gray
- Curly or wavy hair will also be accepted but may be straightened to measure
