"The seat-naming campaign is not only a fun and impactful way to support our efforts, but people like the idea of knowing their kids will grow up in a place where they will see their names and family's generosity recognized," said Lindsay Hearon, of Bedford Playhouse Marketing & Events.
For Donna Seaborn and her husband Emmett, purchasing a seat meant more than having their names on display. "Emmett and I fell in love with Bedford 30 years ago and the Playhouse significantly added to the charm of the village," said Seaborn. "When we learned of the project to reopen it, we wanted to help make it happen. Having our family name on seats is a fun way to show our support, and also serve as a reminder to our children and future grandchildren that we care about our community."
Acclaimed actor Bruce Willis and his wife Emma Heming echoed similar sentiments, having fallen in love with the town after purchasing a home in Bedford in 2014. "Our family moved to Bedford a couple of years ago, and we were immediately welcomed by this amazing community of friends," said Heming. "It is our honor and pleasure to be able to support this incredible program at the Bedford Playhouse."
Upon its opening, the Bedford Playhouse will screen a variety of independent, foreign and documentary films, offering those in Westchester and Fairfield counties the chance to experience films they're unable to find elsewhere. These unique offers are what inspired Janet Halvorson, a longtime Bedford resident, to lend her support.
"I loved that I could expose my kids to quality film and not just the Hollywood blockbusters offered in the massive cineplexes," she said. "My son now lives in Chappaqua with his wife and one year old daughter, and I would love for my granddaughter to have the same experiences at the movies that my children had."
Featuring more than just movies, the Bedford Playhouse's calendar of events includes celebrity and speaker engagements, comedy nights, author series, musical performances, private events and parties.
"I’m proud to have our children see our family name on seats and I hope that it inspires them to continue to support the Bedford Playhouse in the future," said Seaborn.
